Manchester City destroys Fulham in a one-sided game

One of their opening games was against Fulham, a London-based football club. Fulham was clearly staring at a football giant as they travelled to the Etihad Stadium in Manchester for their game.

Upon kick-off, it became apparent that this wasn’t going to be an easy game. Nothing happened in the first 30 minutes, but in the 31st minute, Manchester City put away their first goal to Fulham’s dismay. Even though Fulham scored their equaliser only two minutes later, it didn’t last long.

In the fifth minute of injury time during the first half, Man City retook the lead and went into the second half feeling confident; they were right to be. Erling Haaland scored in the 58th, 70th and the fifth minute of injury time, completing his hat trick and completely undoing all of Fulham’s work, leaving them with a brutal loss of 5-1.

Manchester City completes high stakes transfers

With the loss of two of their key players last season, Manchester City were eager to replace Riyad Mahrez and İlkay Gündoğan. The club was prepared to spend high sums of money on their replacements.

After looking and scouting, Manchester City settled on two players, one of whom was a defender from RB Leipzig, a Croatian named Josko Gvardiol. Man City agreed on a price of £77m, filling the gap left by the departure of their old team members.

Their second large transfer lay with one of their other Premier League clubs, Wolverhampton Wolves. Man City was in talks with them to sign another midfielder by the name of Matheus Nunes for the large sum of £60m. Nunes is a Brazilian-born player who had a great spell with Wolves during their last season; he clearly caught Man City’s eyes to fill the vacant spots in their team.

Manchester City takes on formidable rivals in London

In recent years, their London-based rivals Arsenal have often given them problems, and Manchester City has usually dispelled them with no problem. They easily cruised past them in the Premier League; however, this time, it was different.

The match started like any other, with lots of tension, as the top spot of the Premier League was up for grabs. While Manchester City got the occasional shot, they appeared to be on the defensive most of the game as Arsenal delivered shot after shot. Though only one was on target, they seemed to be the much more aggressive team of the two.

As the second half came, the two sides were still goalless and unable to break the deadlock. With a total of five yellow cards being thrown around, it was clear that players were getting very irritated at the lack of progress.

In the 85th minute, everything changed when Martinelli was able to strike it home for Arsenal. Despite taking a huge deflection from another Manchester City player, it reached the back of the net with no problem, breaking the deadlock just minutes away from the final whistle.

When the final whistle was finally blown, Arsenal found themselves beating Manchester City for the first time since 2015 in the Premier League. The Gunners finally broke a 12-game-long losing run against Manchester City, much to the latter’s dismay.

Manchester City wins against Nottingham Forest despite losing key player

On the 23rd of February, Manchester City settled down at their home stadium in Manchester, The Etihad, to face second year Premier League side Nottingham Forest for what should have seemed like an extremely easy fixture.

After kick-off, all seemed standard, with two goals from Erling Haaland and Phil Foden within the first fifteen minutes. All seemed to be going their way as they approached the end of the first half with a comfortable lead that was sure to last into the second half.

After the second-half kick-off, Rodri made a promising run into the corner of Nottingham Forest’s half near their corner flag before being shoved by Gibbs-White. A fight occurred shortly after, and after squaring up with each other, Rodri found himself shoving Gibbs-White to the ground during the fight. Other players tried to break up the fight, but the referee showed Rodri a straight red card and he was sent off.

With their comfortable lead and a couple more chances despite the lack of Rodri, Manchester went on to win 2-0. Pep no doubt had stern words for Rodri after the game.
